Qur’an School

Our School

The official name of our school is the “Qur’an and Basic Religious Knowledge Course”. Our school operates under the T.R. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Brussels Embassy, Counsellor for Social Affairs (the Belgian Diyanet Counsellor’s Office).

Our aim is to give our children and young people the ability to read the Qur’an correctly, along with basic religious knowledge and Islamic moral values.

Our school is open to students of every nationality, aged 7 and up. Registration and lessons are entirely free of charge; no dues whatsoever are collected.

Lesson Days and Times

In normal weeks, lessons are held on Saturdays and Sundays. In weeks when schools are on a full-week holiday, the programme also includes Monday; in those weeks, lessons run for 3 days.

Each lesson lasts 40 minutes, with a 20-minute break between lessons. The first lesson of the day is always the Qur’an; the second and third lessons alternate between topics of creed, worship, the life of the Prophet, and moral education.

The 2026-2027 Calendar

The new academic year begins on Saturday, 5 September 2026 and ends on Sunday, 6 June 2027. The lesson calendar is aligned with the official school calendar of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

Our school is also on holiday during school holiday periods:

The regular curriculum is suspended during the month of Ramadan (8 February – 8 March 2027); lessons during this period focus on Ramadan-specific content. There are no lessons on the days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha; on the eve of Eid al-Adha (Saturday, 15 May 2027), lessons cover topics specific to the festival.

A total of 87 lesson days and 261 lesson hours are planned for the 2026-2027 period.

Curriculum

Our lessons are organised around five main areas:

• The Qur’an — beginning with the elifbâ (recognising letters and reading correctly), then tajweed (the rules of Qur’anic recitation), and finally the memorisation of surahs and prayers. The memorised texts include the surahs al-Fatiha, al-Ikhlas, an-Nas, al-Falaq, al-Kawthar and al-Asr, as well as basic texts such as the Kalimah al-Tawhid, the Kalimah al-Shahada and the Amantu.
• Creed (Itikat) — the pillars of faith; belief in Allah, the angels, the scriptures, the prophets, the afterlife and destiny.
• Worship (Ibadah) — the five pillars of Islam, along with the basics of ablution, prayer, fasting, zakat and hajj.
• The Life of the Prophet (Siyer) — the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him); his birth, childhood, youth and prophethood, covered in chronological order.
• Moral Education (Ahlak) — topics such as kind speech and conduct, love of family and kin, brotherhood and sharing.

• Temel Dini Bilgiler – Seyfettin Yazıcı (Presidency of Religious Affairs Publications)

During Ramadan and on the eve of Eid al-Adha, the curriculum is enriched with content specific to fasting, the Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr) and the ritual of sacrifice.

Registration

Registration is done through the “Online registration form” button on the right of this page. Filling in the form takes about 5 minutes; it is available in Turkish and French. You can scan your identity card with the form’s camera to automatically fill in details such as the student’s first name, surname and date of birth. Once submitted, your signed registration document is sent to your e-mail as a PDF, and you are given a reference number.

Registration is open throughout the year; if you wish to register a new student or update previously entered information, you can fill in the form again using the same reference number.

The form asks for the student’s identity, school and any health information, along with the parent’s contact details. This information is used only by the school administration and is shared, where necessary, for official notifications required to be made to the Counsellor’s office. For parents unable to complete the online form, registration can also be done in person at the mosque.

School Rules and Parents’ Responsibilities

The Course–Parent Agreement signed at registration sets out the basic rules for students and parents. Parents are expected to:

• Ensure the student attends lessons regularly and arrives on time
• Follow the school’s announcements and publications
• Attend the parent meetings held at least three times a year
• Inform the school administration of any change in the student’s health
• Treat fellow students, teachers and staff with respect, both at the mosque and in the school
• Keep the areas used (classroom, mosque) clean and tidy

Assessment and Certificates

Students’ progress is assessed at the end of the academic year. At the end of each term, students receive a report card / certificate of attendance; students who complete all lessons in the curriculum receive a Course Completion Certificate.

Our school also takes part in knowledge competitions held in the Namur region; students who place in these competitions are presented with a certificate of achievement.

Parents’ Portal (coming soon)

A parents’ portal is being prepared for parents of enrolled students. Through the portal, a student’s attendance record, weekly lesson schedule and school-related announcements will be available to follow; you can track its status from the box on the right. This feature will be announced separately once it goes live.
